Shopping style

by Kayla Kluver

Online or in store? With or sans posse?  Recently one of my favourite bloggers (Man Repeller) wrote of her nostalgia for offline shopping and it got me thinking about my own habits and complete lack of online-shopping-savvy. I love shopping and I peruse the shops quite frequently. I don't make a purchase every time - nobody likes buyers remorse - but I genuinely enjoy a good browse. I like knowing what's in which store, watching patterns and trends trickle down to the high-street, and getting my hands on fabrics (how something feels and lays is so very important). I realize I could do most of these things from the comfort of my desk chair - and I will do the occasional preliminary search online first - but I haven't made an online purchase in well over a year. I in no way deny the perks; no travel, no queues, no horrible fitting room lighting, but it's not enough to keep me from the shops and an experience I do so love. I also prefer shopping solo (unless helping a friend/client with something particular). I like a clear objective and focus - helping a friend piece together an outfit that suits their style and the function is fun and makes me feel well chuffed with my styling skills - but if I'm looking for something for myself I prefer the freedom/ease of being alone. I don't worry whether my friend is ready to move on to the next shop or dying of boredom outside the fitting room. And although it can be nice to have a second opinion, I prefer knowing I picked a piece without outside bias, I picked it because I liked it, and because it made me feel confident. You shouldn't need someone else to "sign off" on something you love!  But I'm interested to know what you prefer. Are you a lone wolf on the shopping floor or do you prefer to travel in a pack? Been led astray by overzealous co-shoppers or maybe encouraged to break out of your comfort zone? What's your shopping style?! KKxx
